Colonel Robert P. Palmer is Director of Public Affairs for Headquarters, Air Force Reserve Command, Robins AFB, Ga. He serves as the principal advisor to the commander on public affairs matters and supervises the force management of about 220 Public Affairs officers and 310 enlisted Public Affairs personnel.
Colonel Palmer leads the command's community and media outreach programs, supporting the activities of about 70,000 Reservists serving at 12 host installations and 60 other bases and locations. He is responsible for informing the public, shaping and protecting the Air Force Reserve's identity, and sending out command messages to troops, taxpayers and worldwide audiences.
Colonel Palmer was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army National Guard through Army ROTC at The Citadel. In 2003, he transferred to the Air Force Reserve and was assigned as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee at Headquarters, Air Mobility Command. In 2004, Colonel Palmer began his first Active Guard Reserve (AGR) tour as the Chief of Strategic Communications for the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
Prior to becoming a career AGR officer, Colonel Palmer served as executive vice president and chief executive officer of the Associated General Contractors of Indiana, a statewide construction trade association based in Indianapolis.
