O VERVIEW
The Air Force Reserve (AFR) Teen Leadership Council (TLC) is a nationwide group of teens selected to:
· provide a youth perspective in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of AFR Youth Programs
· develop effective strategies and implement solutions for issues faced by military youth
· speak on behalf of AFR Youth at selected functions and programs
· lead programs to other youth at various events
Requirements: · Attend centrally funded TLC retreat in the fall - tentative date: Veteran's Day weekend
· Participate in regularly scheduled conference calls and discussions
· Lead and assist with child and youth programs at AFRC Yellow Ribbon events (minimum one annually)
· Identify and accomplish at least one TLC goal/project per year to strengthen AFR Youth Programs
· Follow up with assigned tasks
· Other responsibilities as determined by the group and/or advisors
Selection Process: · Interested teens must submit their complete application. In addition to the application, teens must submit one letter of recommendation and a copy of a recent report card/transcript.
· Teens will be interviewed (via phone) by AFRC Child and Youth staff. Teens will be questioned about their personal interests, leadership skills, and ability to serve on the TLC.
· Teens will be selected through a review of application materials/letter of recommendation and assessment of the interview. Members will be selected to serve on either a one or two year term based on age and year in school at time of selection.
o Apply: You must be a teen dependent of a current Air Force Reserve (AFR) member to apply.
Complete the attached 6-section application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Attach 1 letter of recommendation written by a non-family member that addresses your strengths and
abilities to serve on the Teen Leadership Council (TLC). Examples of writers include teachers, coaches, organization leaders, employers, etc.
Attach a copy of your most recent report card or transcript from your high school.
Complete the signature page.
Send all the items listed above to AFRC Family Member Programs (afrc.youthprograms@us.af.mil) by 15 September. Please call or email for verification that your application has been received.
Teens submitting complete applications may be scheduled for a phone interview.
Teens will be notified NLT 1 October of their acceptance status.
