USDA Cooperative Extension |
| USDA Cooperative Extension Offices are located in every community across the United States. Cooperative Extension System is a nationwide, non-credit educational network. Each U.S. state and territory has a state office at its land-grant university and a network of local or regional offices. These offices are staffed by one or more experts who provide useful, practical, and research-based information to agricultural producers, small business owners, youth, consumers, and others in rural areas and communities of all sizes. Cooperative Extension's youth program is 4-H; however they also provide family/child development classes, safety trainings, parenting guides, and financial planning/counseling, through their family and consumer sciences program. 4-H |
| 4-H is a community of young people across America who focus on developing leadership, citizenship and life skills. Through America's 109 land-grant universities and its Cooperative Extension System, 4-H reaches every corner of our nation--from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities. In its early beginnings, 4-H taught youth agriculture and home economics information. Today, 4-H members can participate in more than 100 project areas ranging from computer science to marine ecology and performing arts to food preparation. 4-H'ers have the opportunity to sharpen their leadership and citizenship skills by leading county club, completing community service projects, and competing in project achievement or judging events. There is a formal partnership between 4-H and the Department of Defense to provide programming for military youth. An Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) 4-H Youth Specialist works to connect AFRC youth to 4-H programs in their local community. MISSION: Youth Outreach |
| Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) offers free membership at local BGCA chapters for National Guard and Reserve youth ages 6-18. Known as "The Positive Place for Kids," Boys & Girls Clubs are staffed by trained professionals who truly care and are vested in realizing the full potential of each young person. Clubs offer diversified program activities in five areas: character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness, and recreation. YMCA Military Outreach Initiative |
| YMCA clubs across the country are offering YMCA memberships and respite child care options for families of National Guard and Reserve members who have been deployed for a minimum of six months. Interested families should contact Military OneSource to confirm eligibility and obtain forms. Members will be required to present eligibility form, military ID and other required documents to YMCA. American Red Cross |
| The American Red Cross is the nation's premier emergency response organization. Chapters located within communities across the nation offer trainings and classes for youth and adults in a variety of subject areas including CPR, first aid, babysitting, lifeguarding, swimming lessons, etc. In addition, Red Cross shares emergency preparedness information through their health and safety programming. Red Cross offers many volunteer opportunities including blood drives and disaster services. American Legion |
| The American Legion was chartered in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation's largest veteran's service organization committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and supporting fellow service members and veterans. The American Legion offers many youth programs including baseball leagues, shooting sports, oratorical contests, Boy's and Girl's State/Nation, scholarship programs, and much more. The Legacy Scholarship is available to child/children of military members who were federalized and died on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. | Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis and its youth-oriented Service Leadership Programs serve communities across the United States. Lion's Club International |
| Lion's Club International is the world's largest service club organization. One of their larger programs conducted by the Lion's Club is the SightFirst Program, where Lions members help conduct vision screenings, equip hospitals and clinics, distribute medicine and raise awareness of eye disease. Youth programs through the Lion's Club include poster contests, camps, visitor exchange trips, and more. The Leo Program is a youth personal development through volunteering club. | Rotary International club members work to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto 'service above self'. Rotary clubs are located in communities across the nation working to serve others and promote fellowship among members. Each club chooses specific projects that can address local, state, regional, national, or international issues. | National Guard and Reserve dependents are eligible for a free membership to Tutor.com. Tutor.com can assist with all subjects grades K-12 and introductory college courses. The tutor and the user will work together in a secure online classroom where they are able to chat, draw on a shared whiteboard, upload files, and browse the web together. Our Military Kids |
| Our Military Kids provides grants of up to $500 to children (3yrs to 12th grade) of deployed and severely injured Reservists for enrichment of children's activities and tutoring. Eligible activities include sports programs, fine arts programs (music lessons, dance, theater, etc.), tutoring, driver's educations, scouting, school trips, and more.
