Lt. Gen. Maryanne Miller, commander, Air Force Reserve Command, posthumously presented the meritorious service medal January 27, 2018, to Albert and Shirley Adams, the family of the late Master Sgt Sophia Gibbs. Gibbs worked for AFRC Recruiting Service as the NCOIC, force management and customer service. In addition to receiving the MSM, the family was given a shadow box and coin display from her recruiting service family.

Miller will become the first female in the history of the Air Force Reserve to be Chief of the Air Force Reserve and commander of the Air Force Reserve Command.
