The 403rd Wing at Keesler AFB, Miss., and the 919th Special Operations Wing at Duke Field, Fla., won more than half of the 2004 Air Force Reserve Command Media Contest awards.

Keesler AFB dominated the competition with four first-place individual awards, and the wing magazine, Gulf Wing, earned the Best Command Publication award. Duke Field took two first-place individual awards, and the wing newsletter, Midnight Express, placed second in the Best Command Publication competition.

Maj. Gen. David E. Tanzi, AFRC vice commander, announced the command’s top publications and individual award winners in a message Feb. 24. Seven days later the general presented the awards to the recipients or their representatives at the AFRC PA Deployment for Training awards banquet in Savannah, Ga.

AFRC publications, regardless of category, compete for the Best Command Publication award. Winners within each category advanced to the Air Force Media Contest in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 28-March 4.

The Associate Press from the 446th Airlift Wing, McChord AFB, Wash., finished third in the Best Command Publication competition. It was named the best newsletter in the Department of Defense for 2003. Another newsletter, Patriot, from the 439th AW, Westover Air Reserve Base, Mass., earned an honorable mention in the 2004 AFRC contest.
