Air Force Biography

Colonel Markus P. Gmehlin

Colonel Markus P. Gmehlin is the Command Surgeon at Headquarters, Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. As Command Surgeon, he conducts major command level policy development for administration, training, and readiness of medical and aeromedical evacuation programs. He is responsible to the AFRC commander for all professional and administrative activities of the AFRC medical program. He manages an $80 million annual budget and leads a staff of 87 headquarters personnel. Col Gmehlin provides programming oversight of medical professional and financial resources for three numbered air forces and 80 reserve medical units, and directs health services and medical standards for over 70,000 reservists.

Colonel Gmehlin is originally from Switzerland and was commissioned into the Biomedical Sciences Corps in 1992. He has served in a broad range of assignments across the DoD and most recently completed a three year command of the 59th Medical Support Group at Lackland AFB, Texas.
